Furmeca

Furmeca

Specialisation is often the key and that's certainly true for Furmeca. The French company, located in Fursac (department 23) specialises in machining parts by turning, using only CNC lathes. For that purpose the company needed a range of quality machinery to ensure results and in CMZ it found the ideal ally. This collaboration has led to the purchase of 6 CMZ lathes in recent years and the confidence that they will be provided with a quality service.

BACKGROUND

Furmeca is a company with 50 years of history, founded in 1974. It specialises in machining parts with turning processes using only CNC lathes. Another of the characteristics of the business is the size of the parts, as they work small, highly complex parts in niche volumes, from 10 to 10,000 parts, and for very specific markets. This means that the company needs a range of very versatile machinery to guarantee high quality standards and at the same time, the capacity to produce higher volumes. For that purpose, in CMZ they found an ally for their production processes: a collaboration that began 15 years ago and continues to date.

HIGHLY DEMANDING SECTORS

When working side by side with demanding sectors, it is essential to have a range of machinery that ensures quality. Furmeca works for sectors like the aeronautics, naval, aerospace and defence and wind power industries. All of them are very demanding market niches with high quality standards.

Therefore, to provide that service Furmeca has a wide range of machines including 6 CMZ lathes: 1 x 3-axis lathe, 3 x 4-axis lathes and 2 x 4-axis lathes with tailstock. Most of their CMZ lathes are from the TA series, a top-selling machine that combines robustness, power and reliability to deliver the required results.

THE CHALLENGE

The first CMZ lathe joined Furmeca in 2009, when the company identified the need to acquire a robust, precise machine that was equipped to provide reliable numerical control. This was the first of half a dozen machines which followed in 2017 (2 x CMZ lathes), 2021 (1 lathe) and 2023 (2 x CMZ lathes). Our partner over many years, Perreau Machines-outils, represented by OLIVIER Corman lived up to Furmeca's expectations, on both technical and commercial issues.

After contacting CMZ's technical team, Furmeca's range of parts was analysed exhaustively to provide the best solution. In this way, the focus was directed towards the most appropriate technical options for the type of manufacture, optimising the process. In addition, value for money and the after-sales service provided directly by specialised factory engineers from the subsidiary CMZ France were some of the factors that tipped the scales towards choosing CMZ over its competitors.

THE SOLUTION

Firstly, after analysing Furmeca's production needs and the type of parts they were working with, the company was directed towards the CNC lathe that best suited their process. The technical solution that was presented involved a double spindle, 15-position turret process, that enabled Furmeca to use a large number of axial and radial turning tools to machine finished parts without the need to reprocess them. A solution 100% tailored to their needs, which delivered a fully satisfactory result in line with their expectations.

WHY CMZ?

There were several reasons why Furmeca committed to working with CMZ. Initially, it was the robustness and precision of the machine that convinced them, but over time, many other reasons became apparent. The key to such long-lasting collaboration is trust and the value for money CMZ provides, in addition to a highly responsive after-sales service. Furthermore, delivery took place on the agreed dates, thus ensuring that commissioning took place on time as well.

In this way, CMZ became a key partner for Furmeca, due to the quality of the machines, its responsive service and ability to meet deadlines. These have been the key elements throughout this time that have ensured the continuity of our collaboration, which it is hoped will last at least another 15 years. One of CMZ's mantras is its commitment to European manufacturing and integral control of the production process. That is why over 80% of the components for the lathes are manufactured at our own facilities to guarantee powerful, robust, reliable CNC lathes with over 20 years of useful life.
